Borat - is it a racist film?

So bloggers, you have now looked at Christian and some Jewish views on racism (click on the title to read BORAT'S BELIEFS in wikipedia). The new Sacha Baron Cohen film has his fictional character describing how people in Kazakhstan like to "shoot the Jew."

Sacha Baron Cohen is Jewish. Why is he then encouraging anti Jewish jokes? Is he encouraging racism to Kazakhstani people? Is it OK to tell racist jokes or are they just like the stereotypes the Nazis used in 1934?

What are your thoughts? Have your say and comment upon each others' views. (Don't forget to click on the comments link under this posting).

Welcome

Welcome to my blog for students studying the EDEXCEL Religion and Life course in year 11. This is your place to express opinions on some of the topics we discuss in lessons. You can view what other people think, say what you think and fllow links to useful revision pages. However, just a few rules!

Rules of engagement:
  • Do say what you think...but say why you think it. If you agree, disagree - give reasons and even better give evidence and examples.
  • You can agree or disagree with other comments but no nasty or personal comments.
  • You will have a code name so that you can make your comments knowing that other students will not know who made them (unless you tell them your code!)

So, here's your first topic to discuss from the Social Harmony Unit:

"A man's place is in the home." Do you agree? Give reasons.

To read others' comments click on the "previous posts" link on the right. Don't forget to use your codename - not your real name.
