An unequal world

In this final unit you are studying wealth and poverty; Christian and Muslim responses to it. You may wish to post a comment after re-viewing the minature Earth video clip.

Your homework details are:

Prepare a summary (approx 500 words) of the work of one Religious Agency that helps  in the development of an LEDC (Less Economically Developed Country). Choose from: CHRISTIAN AID, TEAR FUND, CAFOD, WORLD VISION. (Each of these is a hyperlink to the website with the information). If you choose another organisation it must be religious (i.e. not comic relief or Oxfam)

Questions to answer (success criteria)

  • Why does it do it’s work (how have beliefs influenced them)?
  • What does it do? (briefly outline it’s different types of work)
  • Where does it work? (Give 2 examples of development work done).

This must be YOUR summary. Read, put down, write in your own words

Christian Aid

Your essay at the end of this unit is:

Outline the work of one religious organisation that aims to reduce inequality in the world. In your answer you should explain the religious nature of the organisation and how it helps to reduce inequality. (12)

This is an extended piece of writing, therefore it will be written in paragraphs. You will use your mind map to support this.

Click on the title to find the details on Christian Aid we used in lessons. You need to know:
  • When it was set up.
  • Why they believe they should help the poor
  • How it helps to reduce inequality.
  • Some examples of the work it has done.
